WASHINGTON (SPINews) -- Seeking to bridge the divide between itself and the GOP right, the Obama administration is taking a page from White House history.
"Ronald Reagan and Speaker Tip O'Neill were bitter political rivals," said one aide. "But when the brawling was over, they could sit down together over a bottle of Jameson's, swap tall tales and work things out.
"Bottom line, they were two congenial old Micks."
President O'Bama has invited Senator Marc O'Rubio to join him for a couple of St. Paddy's Day Guinnesses in the Rose Garden.
They hope to find common ground, the aide tells SPINews. "They're not so far apart. Both from the Old Sod -- one's from County Kenya, the other County Cuba."
