In its widely publicized “Spring is Springing in Sardonika,” the tourist board mistakenly published the photo on the left, rather than one showing flowers, chirping birds and the president teeing off at the Sardonika Country Club.
The ad campaign played in the United States, aimed at stealing Americans away from Orlando, San Francisco and the safe bits of Arizona.
“How the hell could you people get it so wrong,” he demanded. “You pull that crap and folks will go to warmer places, like Fairbanks and Iceland.
He considered firing the whole staff, but when he sent out feelers for replacements, no one replied.
Replied one tourist board staffer, “What’s he upset about? Spring always looks like that around here.”
